Q&A
When will players learn tactics? What is tactics? Tactics is a strategic plan that allows all team players to be part of a unified and successful approach to defending, building and attacking. Before tactics can be learned the players need to recognize space as an object and intellectually interpret instructions as directed. No skill, no tactics. The REC program at this age provides an introduction to a fundamental tactical foundation within a less pressure environment. Can a Grades 5-8 REC player be able to transition to the U11-14/15 Travel Program successfully? There are many criteria that will play a role in a player's evaluation but if a player has the game skills, athleticism, emotional maturity then the tactical component can still be learned. |
Small-sided games are considered to be tools that compensate for lost time by accelerated learning in a shorter period through a range of age appropriate soccer activities including matches. Because RE/REC+ coaches only have limited amount of time per week at their disposal to influence their players, the most important objective is to provide the most fun environment possible by means of simplified small-sided games that (1) are free flowing, (2) are coach-guided, not coach-directed, and (3) require every player to participate in defending, building and attacking, regardless of their position.
Total Enjoyment From Soccer When players are motivated practicing their sport, they will have more fun, learn more from it, and therefore become a better soccer player. So our goal is to get as much pleasure from soccer as possible. At training the most enjoyment can be gained in situations where players can score as much as possible but also defend. On a full size field children don’t have as many chances to touch the ball and therefore skills are developed slower. REC/REC+ players, even 5-12 graders will practice with smaller number of players and on smaller fields. This way they touch the ball more and, in match-situations, this improves vision and eventually more tactical insightfulness. |
