6 Steps to a Better Shot
It is one thing to benefit from striking a ball as many times as possible but it is a huge expediting benefit when young players choose to analyze the strike over and over again and then go out and practice striking a ball with a analytical approach. "Practice makes permanent" and if one does anything repetitiously incorrectly then the opportunities to excel will take longer or even be diminished. The 6 Steps are listed below: STEP #1 - Approach - approach ball from a slight angle. - Chest facing target. STEP #2 - Small Steps - Approach along side of ball with smaller steps. - Tighten legs. - Stay loose in upper body. - Look at target. STEP #3 - Last step - Make last step longer allowing natural wind up with shooting leg. - Anchored foot drops approximately 8 inches next to or little in front of ball. - Lock ankle of shooting foot. Release pressure and improve accuracy by raising arm up on side of anchor foot. STEP #4 - Look at ball - Look down at the middle of ball as ball is struck. - Toes of striking foot or facing down. - Anchored foot is facing target. STEP #5 - Strike ball - Strike ball in middle with laced part of shoe. - Foot stays cocked at strike. STEP #6 - Follow through - After strike pull shooting knee up. - Continue to run through towards target. - Land on shooting foot. |
